Pakistan’s Current Challenges

  • Political turmoil leading to severe economic instability, placing the country at risk of financial default.
  • Denial of civil rights to peacefully protest. The evidence is indisputable that the State machinery is used against civilians to intimidate. Secret paramilitary forces that appear in plain clothes or disguised as police force are used to unleash violence on innocent civilians and political workers.
  • Civilians are facing open firing of live ammunition, tear gassing, and use of water cannons. The sitting Interior Minister Rana Sanullah is on record for issuing violent threats against innocent civilians. The same Interior Minister is accused of committing nearly twenty murders by his own party members.
  • The current regime is filled with such characters who have violated not only Pakistan’s own laws but also international genocide laws. They will remain international criminals and subject to prosecution either in Pakistan or in international courts without any time limit.
  • Today, free speech is under siege. Fear to speak freely by ordinary innocent people is prevalent, simply for uttering the name of a political leader or the party.

Brutal Civil Rights violations:

  • Arrests without warrants are common, where more than 10,000 people attending peaceful protests or carrying a popular political party flag led by Imran Khan were thrown in jail and kept under inhumane conditions in violation of international criminal justice system.
  • Illegal detentions continue without charges or court appearances. Those who do appear at the courts are generally released, but the government machinery backed by the Military elites rearrests them, clearly thumbing their noses at the court system.
  • Arrest of underage children is now a common practice.
  • Arrest of elderly women and underaged children is happening without impunity.
  • Extreme torture of several politicians and journalists under police custody is happening openly and blatantly.
  • Media Channels, journalists, reporters, and analysts have been coerced through intimidation and bribes to tow the Army elite’s line and support its corrupt practices.
  • Civilian murders under police custody are happening – no investigation or legal action is taken.
  • Political murders are happening and no investigation is conducted.
  • Political victimization is going on unchecked.
  • Illegal entry is happening in private houses; violence and terror against women, elderly parents, and children inside their homes are happening repeatedly. Police are looting personal belongings and destroying possessions such as automobiles, furniture, electronics, etc.
  • Separate justice systems for the rich and the poor classes.

 Constitutional crisis and compromised Courts:

  • The Supreme Court violated Parliamentary independence by intervening into Parliamentary Affairs in April 2022 and ordered specific instructions to the Speaker of the National Assembly. He was ordered to conduct the Parliamentary affairs in a certain manner to achieve the desired results by ousting then-sitting Prime Minister Imran Khan.
  • The Supreme Court ignored to investigate the infamous Cypher that was sent by the Pakistani Ambassador in Washinton DC, where the Assistant Secretary of the United States, Donald Lu, directly intervened in the internal affairs of Pakistan and demanded the ouster of then-Prime Minister Imran Khan.  This is alleged by Imran Khan and he has not been investigated or the US government has not denied it.
  • The then-sitting COAS General Bajwa colluded with a foreign government to overthrow an elected Pakistani government.
  • General Bajwa used his powers to force the Supreme Court Chief Justice to open the courts at midnight and through the Chief Justice intervened in the Parliamentary affairs. After the retirement of General Bajwa, it is an admitted fact that the former Army Chief dictated policies against a sitting government that helped overthrow the government.
  • Provincial caretaker governments in Punjab and KPK are violating the constitution by continuing to operate beyond their 90-day interim caretaker role. They have openly denied fulfilling their responsibility of holding elections in those two Provinces, in accordance with the Constitution. They are choosing to stay but also have the option to resign, which they chose not to exercise.
  • A Supreme Court Chief Justice in waiting blatantly sits in the Parliamentary session with the Party leaders of Pakistan People’s Party and PML-N which had the subliminal message to show solidarity and an indirect message of his future direction as the Chief Justice – a warning of what’s about to unleash through a corrupt judge who will decide on the fate of millions of people.
  • Divided Supreme Court making a mockery of the judiciary, giving the international community red meat to make jokes about Pakistan and its Kangaroo Courts run by the corrupt judicial system.
  • The current Supreme Court Chief Justice is afraid of ordering Contempt of Court orders against the government and politicians who continue to blatantly violate the constitution. Who is giving them this cover? The Army?
  • Inaction against the paramilitary forces and the Army for terrorizing, breaking and entry, violence, and mayhem in the Supreme Court. This planned script unraveled with thousands of police in and around the Courts leading to a dramatic arrest of a former Prime Minister Imran Khan from within the Courtroom sanctity. These optics were designed to provoke the former Prime Minister’s supporters into violent protests, embarrass him personally and create fear in the minds of the masses.
  • No Suo moto or formal independent commission leading to the inquiry of violence inside the Core Commander’s house on May 9th is ordered. There are unanswered questions about that incident:

Where are the videos from the surrounding CCTVs and other surveillances?

Where is the Core Commander and his family?

Where was the security protecting the Core Commander?
How were a few ordinary citizens able to break open a fortified gate and other heavy doors leading into the Core Commander’s residence?
Where are the witness interviews?
Where are the video clips of individuals who filmed some unscrupulous characters breaking and entering or provoking and inciting the public to go inside? Why those characters are not arrested? These people appeared well-trained instigators who were caught on tape and circulated in the social media.
Why is the Military in such a rush to try anyone of their choosing in Military Courts without investigation or evidence and without an attorney to defend in the Military Courts?
What actions have the Military taken against its security forces responsible for protecting the Core Commander?

Where were they all this time when the Core Commander’s residence was under attack?
Why did no help arrive when the Core Commander and his family were calling for help from various Police and Military units? Why were they tone deaf? Have those people been interviewed?
Is this a genocide against Pakistani citizens?
Is there any outcry for the barbaric acts that are committed against innocent civilians?

The entire May 9th episode is filled with inconsistencies and bad faith intentions to achieve certain political objectives by the Military at any cost. How many innocent lives will be destroyed?

Allowing a political party to break and enter the Supreme Court compound, protest, block Supreme Court judges’ path, and exert intimidating tactics during a case hearing went unpunished. This was orchestrated by the so-called and corrupt religious/political leader Fazal ur Rehman.

Not taking notice against the government for removing obligatory security afforded to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Denying video appearance in a court by a former Prime Minister, especially when the government issued a notice of threats against his life and allowing a video appearance privilege to the alleged attempted murderer of the same Prime Minister.

Silence on denial of the basic constitutional rights of the aggrieved parties to record their version of FIRs, including the former Prime Minister, former Ministers, and former government officials.

Lack of notice against the government for political witch-hunting by arresting a large number of political party leaders and workers.

Politicians are released if they read a boilerplate script denouncing PTI, a political party, and denouncing it. How is it that by simply agreeing to this demand, they are freed without charges and welcomed into a newly formed rival political party? Which moron is writing this script?

Failure of the judiciary to appoint an independent commission under its direction and order to the Army to conduct a free and fair investigation in:

Assassination of reporters, including but not limited to Arshad Sharif

Assassination under police custody of a physically and mentally challenged handicapped person named Zillah Shah.

Attempted murder and injury to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Murder of innocent bystanders from crossfire coming from three different directions.

Nearly twenty intelligence and spy agencies operating within Pakistan, advancing special interests, creating havoc, and disorder among intelligence agencies.

Blackmailing tools by the Army & Intelligence agencies used in dividing the judiciary, controlling bureaucracy, politicians, etc. – false cases, false evidence, promiscuous audios, and videos are used as coercive tools.

Budget:

Expenses exceed income, leading to running the economy by increased borrowing or printing money – causing a vicious cycle of higher inflation, interest rates, and economic survival threats.

A corrupted system with traps leading to inefficiencies and investors’ flight.

Special interest groups in businesses, government, politics, Army, bureaucracy, judiciary raping the country at the expense of the poor and destitute citizens.

Inadequate currency reserves to meet debt, imports, and interest obligations.

Negative GDP growth creating higher unemployment and manufacturing entity closures.

Low Tax to GDP ratio caused by selective tax evasion by favorite industrialists.

Special interest direct subsidies and indirect subsidies to certain sectors through tax evasion.

A fast-growing population with fast declining resources.

Poor international debt ratings (junk level).

No clear long-term national policies and plans.

No rule of law that’s respected by domestic or international communities – unjust society.

Rising circular debt: loss-generating national corporations such as Railway, PIA, Steel Mills, IPPs, etc. • High energy and fuel costs – a consequence of poor planning and corruption.

State within the State economy being controlled and operated by the Army elites.

Price gouging and corruption in basic commodities that affect the poorest public sector.

Lack of new infrastructure or planning to accommodate the growing population.

Substandard roads, public transport, and living conditions in urban communities.

Illegal Interventions

Top-down culture of illegal intervention by powerful bureaucrats, ministers, MNAs, MPAs, institutional agencies, Army seniors, and other powerful figures.

Maharaja, Chaudhry, Jageerdaar, Vadera type culture usurping the law of the land and using illegal coercive tactics – Mafia-style power play even at the local body level. Local Police have no protection to stand against the powerful.

A jungle culture where the survival of the fittest rules.

Border terrorism and infiltrations.

Media control, fake news, media manipulation, and suppression of freedom of the press.

Smuggling, human trafficking, drugs, guns, and prostitution culture on the rise.

Excessive perks/privileges and protocols for higher-grade government officers, MNAs, MPAs, Senators, Army officers, Judiciary, Civil Servant higher-grade officers, etc.

Collusion and corruption in government contracting, forcing the contractors to artificially raise the prices and guaranteed protection from accountability against substandard products, services, and performance.

Corruption in Education and Public Health sectors.

An openly corrupt Election Commission – distortion of the democratic process with Army support.

Proxy political parties that are controlled by the Army – by design – manipulation of democracy.

Injustice against the poor and their families by jailing and extortion.

Nonexistent or corrupt food security policy endangering the food supply and increasing the famine prospects in the near future as the population rises and food production declines.

Illegitimate government intervention in sports.

International level embarrassment faced by overseas Pakistanis and Pakistani travelers.
